The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has inaugurated its Volta/Oti Regional Office in Ho to strengthen healthcare regulation and improve service delivery across the Volta Region and Oti Region.
The ceremony, held on March 11, brought together health sector stakeholders, government officials and representatives of health institutions.
James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister and Special Guest of Honour, described the establishment of the office as a major milestone in strengthening healthcare regulation and ensuring quality service delivery.

He said the initiative formed part of national efforts to ensure health facilities operate according to approved standards of safety, quality and professionalism. He added that effective regulation was key to safeguarding public health and building confidence in the healthcare system.
Mr Gunu noted that the Volta Region was positioning itself as a health tourism destination in the sub-region, making a strong regulatory framework essential for quality healthcare services.
“The opening of this office reflects our collective commitment to ensuring that healthcare facilities operate within the highest standards,” he said, urging health professionals to see HeFRA’s work as a collaborative effort rather than policing.
Winfred Korletey Baah, Acting Registrar of HeFRA, said the regional office would bring the agency’s services closer to stakeholders and strengthen monitoring, licensing and accreditation of health facilities in the two regions.
Berlinda Afriyie-Nimako, Board Chair of HeFRA, emphasised that effective regulation was vital to protecting public health and urged healthcare providers to view regulation as a partnership to improve quality care.
Divine Kporha, Volta/Oti Regional Head of HeFRA, said the office would focus on licensing, monitoring and ensuring compliance among healthcare facilities while building partnerships with institutions and professional bodies.
He noted that the presence of the regional office would enhance the agency’s capacity to monitor and enforce regulatory standards across the two regions.
