The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has inaugurated the newly constituted Board of Directors of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), urging them to take bold steps to resolve long-standing operational and financial challenges facing the company.
At a brief ceremony in Accra, the Minister highlighted NEDCo’s crucial role in Ghana’s electricity distribution network, particularly across the northern part of the country. He said the board’s mandate would be pivotal to the success of the government’s broader energy transition and sustainability agenda.
“NEDCo remains a critical player in Ghana’s energy distribution framework. As board members, your leadership must bring about meaningful change. You are expected to strengthen revenue collection systems, drive effective customer engagement, and most importantly, ensure that the lights are kept on at all times,” Mr Jinapor stated.
He charged the board to prioritise three key areas: boosting revenue mobilisation, intensifying public education on energy conservation, and improving service reliability across the company’s operational zones. He also called for collaboration and trust between management and staff, noting that internal unity was vital for efficiency and customer satisfaction.
The newly inaugurated board members include Cletus Seidu Dapilah, who serves as Chairman, Ing. Prof. Felix Kofi Abagale, Dr. Emelia Guo, Ing. Edward Obeng Kenzo, Ing. John Okine Yamoah (Acting Managing Director), and Alhaji Seidu Imoro.
Responding on behalf of the board, Mr Dapilah thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the trust reposed in them and pledged to deliver on their mandate.
“We are fully aware of the task ahead. My colleagues and I are committed to working diligently with all stakeholders to position NEDCo as a leading example of excellence and innovation in the utility sector, especially within the framework of the new energy transition agenda,” he assured.
Mr Dapilah said the board would focus on restoring operational efficiency, enhancing customer satisfaction, and strengthening accountability and innovation to meet the demands of modern electricity distribution.
The inauguration of the new NEDCo Board comes at a time when the company faces challenges including high operational costs, power losses, and growing customer expectations across its service regions.
