Mr. Israel Adjetey Otchwemah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly (LEKMA), says the Assembly will sustain the National Sanitation Day (NSD), with voluntary work and enforcement of the municipality’s sanitation bylaws.
He said the assembly would strictly enforce the sanitation bylaws and prosecute offenders who defied directives governing the NSD.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), during last Saturday’s NSD exercise in the Municipality, he said,
“We will sustain the exercise to facilitate healthy and clean municipality,” he said.
Mr. Otchwemah, who led staff of the assembly, and residents during the cleanup exercise, said the assembly had recruited more cleaners to also champion the campaign.
The exercise, which focused on the Teshie Link road to Manet junction through to Flower pot, saw some participants sweeping the streets and desilting chocked gutters, while others cleared overgrown weeds.
Mr Otchwemah said the assembly would continue to prosecute persons who defied sanitation laws and urged residents to comply with the laws as they kept their surroundings clean.
Mr. James Narh, a resident who participated in the exercise, commended the Ledzokuku MP and the Assembly for sustaining cleanliness in the community.
He said considering the large population and land size of the municipality, all residents must endeavour to help keep their surroundings clean.
