The 2025 edition of the Vodza Easter Ecotourism and Regatta Competition is scheduled for April 18 to 20 at Vodza in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region.
This year's event is part of a five-year project aimed at establishing the area as a national and global tourism event destination.
Madam Mary Magdalene, the Organising Committee Member, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that the Vodza ecotourism and regatta competition had become a highly anticipated event in the region, attracting visitors from all over the country, while the event showcased the rich cultural heritage and ecological beauty of the area.
"This year's competition promises to be an exciting one, with various activities lined up to thrill participants and spectators alike. The event is expected to promote tourism in the region and create economic opportunities for the local community," she said.
She said all necessary arrangements had been made to ensure a successful and enjoyable competition and called on the public to support the event and the competitions to promote tourism sites such as Keta fort, 'Wenya vudo', the light House, Torkortorlia, among others.
Madam Magdalene said that Vodza ecotourism and regatta competition was a testament to the region's commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and creating economic opportunities for the people.
"The initiative, which commenced in 2022, seeks to transform the ecological area and cultural resources in Anlo and Volta into an iconic hub of tourism estimation in the country. The project is expected to provide sustainable jobs for the youth in the region."
She explained that the competition is also expected to promote the cultural heritage of the region, showcasing the rich traditions and customs of the people and provide a unique opportunity for visitors, tourists to experience the local culture of Anloland.
She expressed gratitude to the various stakeholders, group of people, and others who had supported the event over the years and appealed to corporate bodies and individuals to support this year's event to achieve the targeted objectives and goals for the benefit of the citizenry.
She said that previous events were successful while some other special events which include 'Midunu' food fair, canoe jam, swimming competition, line fighting, health screening and regatta would be held on Easter Friday and Saturday while topnotch DJ's from the region would entertain the pubic with Sunday brunch show.
She said that the registration for the regatta competition has been closed, adding that, "All the registered teams are expected to showcase their abilities and endurance in the competition. Dancehall artist Stonebwoy pulled the crowd last year and we are working hard to bring in another old and experience artist, Samini to grace the entertainment show 'Woezor night' this year."
Some residents of Vodza and other surrounding communities GNA spoke with are eagerly anticipating that the fourth edition of the ecotourism and regatta competition would be an exciting and memorable one.
