The Training was aimed at enhancing the capacity of professionals and practitioners in the logistics and transport sector to adopt best practices in fleet management in their respective organisations, a statement shared with the Ghana News Agency said.

Speaking at the event, Mr Mark Amoamah, President of the CILT Ghana, said the collaboration would help promote policies and strategies in the humanitarian logistics and transport sector in the country.

"This collaboration would further our respective missions by establishing a new platform in areas of mutual interest, to support existing policies and strategies to enhance the capacity of supply chain, logistics and transport professionals equipping them with the skills to deliver life-saving goods such as food and medicine more efficiently throughout the region," he said.

Data from the CILT indicates the total fleet size of three public sector institutions in Ghana alone was over 5,000 vehicles, with their estimated budget running into millions of cedis annually, covering operation and maintenance, transport logistics, human resources among others.

Mr Amoamah said the level of investment required "careful supervision" and management by skilled professionals and practitioners to ensure efficient management to achieve the organisational goals.

Mr Neil Kwaku Vorleto, a trainer at the WFP's Transport Training Centre in Accra, said such training programmes were essential to equip participants with requisite knowledge in vehicle fleet management.

"Ultimately, the participants would benefit from the private sectors, the project partners, best practices and receive essential operational knowledge to be skilled fleet managers," he said.

During the training, experts provided insights into various aspects of fleet management, including optimising fleet operations, vehicle maintenance management and fleet management strategies.
