A Ghanaian and Founder of the Nobel International Business School in Accra, Professor Kwaku Atuahene-Gima, has been named as one among the top two per cent scientists in the world.
The most coveted and prestigious list of World Ranking of top two per cent scientists published on October 16, 2020, featured Professor Atuahene-Gima of the Nobel International Business School (NiBS), one of only two universities in Ghana with faculty on the list.
The report
The report, prepared by a team of researchers at Stanford University led by Prof. John P. A. Loannidis, was published in PLOS Biology-prestigious publication forum.
The report contains an exhaustive list of over 100,000 scientists whose published research top tier journals have accelerated progress in their respective fields and influenced the productivity of the work of other researchers as well.
Professor Atuahene-Gima had a c-score of 4.00147, with the highest score of c-score 5.64938, while the lowest score stands at c-score 3.26497.
The score, therefore, ranks him 140th out of a total of 159,684 top two per cent scientists in the world. He is also the only scientist in a Ghanaian university to have been shortlisted.

Reacting to the publication, Professor Atuahene-Gima said he was “pleasantly surprised to see my name among such a prestigious list of scholars from all academic disciplines from all over the world. As academics our role involves contributing new knowledge and practices to the world. Research is a difficult process requiring hard work, dedication, perseverance and patience, so it is always gratifying when your contribution is recognised by your peers. The Nobel International Business School (NiBS) is a very young Business School and this recognition in the world’s top two per cent of scientists’ list has placed us in the global map of science and has brought great pride to the Business School,” Prof. Atuahene-Gima said with smiles.
He expressed the hope that it would encourage and motivate the faculty and doctoral students to work hard and commit to furthering science for the benefit of future generations.
Honours
Professor Atuahene-Gima is ranked the world Number Two innovation management scholar based on single authored research papers published in the top 10 business and management journals.
He is also ranked among the Top 10 doctoral marketing faculty in the world and as Top Three doctoral marketing faculty in marketing management and strategy outside North America. Prof. Atuahene-Gima is listed among the top 20 scholars worldwide with the most citations in the entrepreneurship literature.
Additionally, he is ranked as number one scientist in Ghana by the European Union, based on a number of Googly citations and with his two co-authors, he won the Thomas Hustad Best Paper award in November 2015 for best research paper published in the Journal of Product Innovation Management, the world’s leading journal in innovation management.
The professor has won multiple Best Paper awards at the American Marketing Association, including the prestigious Best Research Paper contributing to knowledge in innovation and technology for his paper published in the Journal of Marketing in October 2005 and on July 23, 2010, he received an award as the Best Professor in Marketing and Innovation Management at Asia’s Best Business Schools Awards by CMO in Singapore.
He was appointed a member of the International Expert Panel for the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) in November 2015; a position in which he evaluated and recommended academic research proposals on innovation and entrepreneurship for funding by the Russian Government.
In June 2006, he was an invited faculty participant in executive education on innovation at the Harvard Business School.
He is an Adjunct Professor of Innovation at Mannheim Business School and at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management (FSFM) both in Germany where he teaches innovation management and lean entrepreneurship.
Editorial Review Boards
Professor Atuahene-Gima serves on editorial review boards of several international journals and is currently the Associate Editor of the Journal of Product Innovation Management (JPIM), the world’s leading academic journal for innovation.
He is the first, and to date, the only African scholar ever to have served on the Editorial Review Board of the American Journal of Marketing, the world’s leading marketing journal from July 2006 to June 2014.
Prof. Atuahene-Gima, who is on the Senior Advisory and Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Product Innovation Management, and the European Journal of Marketing and on the review panel of several other academic journals, won the Outstanding Reviewer Award of the Journal Marketing in 2007.
He currently consults and/or trains executives to develop skills in innovation, strategy, leadership and marketing. He has done work for several local companies including Stanbic IBTC Bank, Lagos, MTN, Volta River Authority, American Tower Company, and others.
He taught at the Queensland University of Technology, Australia, and at the City University of Hong Kong, where he was Department Chair of Management for four years and served as the Founding Director of the Centre for Innovation Management and Organisational Change.
