The Tepa Traditional Council has initiated moves to document the history and the line of succession of the various stools in the area to help check chieftaincy disputes. This is being done in partnership with States-Book Ghana, the National Commission on Culture and the Ghana Tourism Authority.
Nana Adusei Atwenewah Ampem, the Omanhene, said it would take nine months to complete – would be ready in November. He said the book would help ensure peaceful election of the right people - with title to stools to occupy them, and also bring down land disputes.
It would additionally, serve as credible source of information to everybody, eager to learn about the past, the culture and cherished traditions of the people in the traditional area. Nana Ampem said the other high point was that the book could become a vital reference educational material for the youth to aid them to take pride of their rich cultural heritage.
“We want future generations to know what we did right and wrong and continue with the good works”, he added. Nana Ampem applauded the States-Book Ghana for the tremendous support and invited the people to provide the right information to achieve the intended outcome.
Mr. Isaac Bright Botchway, Coordinator of States-Book Ghana, put the cost of the project at GH¢274,460.00. The funding would come mainly through contributions by the Council, States-Book Ghana and donations. Similar compilation of the history of stools in the Offinso, Techiman, and Awutu Traditional Areas had been done.
Mr. Botchway said they were aiming at doing this for all traditional areas across the country.
