Cocoa farmers at Abamkrom, a poor farming community in the Central Region, have appealed to
the Produce Buying Company Limited (PBC) to renovate its society’s shed in the town without delay.
A spokesperson for the farmers, Opanin Kojo Arhin, told the GNA that the building was “unkempt” and wondered why a state building should be allowed to go to waste.
He said the shed had its roof ripped off and the structure is almost collapsing. The Purchasing Clerk’s quarters are in shambles, compelling him to rent a room in the town.
“The shed is a disgrace not only to the PBC authorities but also to the cocoa farmers who do brisk business with the Clerk,” he said.
Opanin Arhin said there were about eight societies at Abamkrom but the society liked doing business with the PBC because it paid farmers bonus, the scale is not manipulated and they have
confidence in the Clerk.
When contacted Mr James Kobina Annan, the Purchasing Clerk, said the society’s building had its roof ripped off two years ago in a rainstorm and that officials from Koforidua office of the
Company had inspected it.
He confirmed that he was not using the attached quarters because the place had become dilapidated and declined to comment further.
