Mr Mark Woyongo, Upper East Regional Minister, on Wednesday called on the people to support the Ghana AIDS Commission and other stakeholders in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
He said that the Commission was spearheading the national HIV and AIDS response as comprehensive community-owned effort, to prevent new infections and provide care and support for Persons Living with HIV/AIDS to reduce the
prevalence of the disease.
Mr Woyongo, who was speaking at the World AIDS Day celebration on the theme: "Universal Access and Human Rights; Action Now", at Bolgatanga, called on Ghanaians to support the implementation of HIV and AIDS policies and programmes.
He also asked the people to support Ghana's commitment to the universal access to prevention, care and support for HIV as well as eradication of stigmatization and exclusion of People Living with AIDS.
Mr Woyongo said there was the need to step up the commitment by galvanising real actions at the individual, community, national and global
levels to fight against the epidemic in fulfilment of the United Nations General Assembly Special Session's declaration, adopted in 2001.
Bong Naba, Baba Alemyarum, Paramount Chief of Bongo Traditional Area, said the Upper East Regional House of chiefs would educate the people on HIV and AIDS and reproductive health.
