Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Issahaku Salia, has handed over six different units of emergency classroom blocks to six Senior High Schools (SHS) in the Region.
The Schools are Lassia-Tuolu SHS in the Wa West District, Eremon Senior High Technical School in the Lawra District and Ullo SHS in the Jirapa District.
The rest are Kanton SHS in the Sissala East District, St. Francis Girls SHS in the Jirapa District and the Queen of Peace SHS in the Nadowli District.
The projects constructed each at the cost of GH284,436.25 formed part of 12 emergency projects Government allocated to the region towards efforts to address the accommodation problems created by the introduction of the
four-year SHS system in the country.
Alhaji Salia said the construction of the projects was a demonstration of government's commitment to resolve the accommodation problem facing schools.
He advised the schools' authorities to take good care of the facilities.
Baba Hamid Osman, the Regional Economic Planning Officer, who accompanied the Minister, said the remaining six projects were at an
advanced stage and would be completed soon.
At Lassia-Tuolu SHS, the Headmaster, Reverend Matthew Tuurosong expressed his gratitude to the government for the project, adding that it had come to relieve them from the accommodation problem.
He said electricity is the greatest challenge facing the school now and appealed to the Regional Minister for assistance in that regard.
Rev. Sister, Justina Dery, Headmistress, Queen of Peace SHS and Rev. Sister Janis Gbiel, Headmistress, St. Francis Girls SHS, said the provision of the facilities were a demonstration of government's commitment to ensure the comfort of the students.
They, however, complained about the absence of furniture in the classrooms, adding that without tables and chairs the new structures could not be put to immediate use.
Alhaji Salia assured them that furniture would soon be provided to enable them to use the facilities.
