Accra, Wednesday 22 September 2010. The Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana has given Zain Ghana the coveted title of Telecommunications Company of the year 2009 and also awarded them the Television Program of the year for their CSR series Zain Touching Lives.
The award of telecoms company of the year recognized Zain for introducing the first advanced third generation network (3.5G) in Ghana and providing a full bouquet of voice, VAS services and fast internet mobile access. It also acknowledged their partnership with Ericsson in the ICT community project Millennium Villages Project.
The critically acclaimed CSR series Zain Touching Lives was recognized for its outstanding contribution to the community in naming and rewarding Ghana’s unsung heroes and heroines. The 13 part TV show changed the lives of Ghana’s most deserving people living in trying circumstances by giving them the opportunity to fulfil their life long dreams. The programme saw Zain build a home for two deserving people, built several boreholes for communities and gave individuals the means to support themselves and their families by setting up businesses for them.
Speaking about the award, Country Manager Philip Sowah said ‘We would like to thank the whole of Ghana for this prestigious award. When we entered the market over one and half years ago we wanted to make a difference in the lives of Ghanaians by giving them the best telecoms products and services and make a lasting contribution to our local communities. This recognition by the CIMG means a lot to us and we will continue to work to improve the lives of Ghanaians.’
Zain have recently lowered their tariffs, cutting their call rates from 12 to 8 Ghana peswas in an effort to bring further value for money for their customers and the rest of Ghana. Customers do not need to register to access this new rate and they also get eight free Zain to Zain texts every day. The new tariff allows both pre paid and post paid customers to make calls to all local networks whilst staying on promotional offers such as 3 cool deals and Akwaaba. With the new title as the new telecommunications company of the year Zain plans to bring further innovative but affordable products to its customers.
