The Local Council of Churches in the Bawku Municipality at the weekend held a service to pray for lasting peace for the area.
The service, a non denominational one, was held in collaboration with World Vision, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) working for the sustainability of peace in Bawku.
It attracted Christian, Traditional and Islamic worshipers who participated and prayed, seeking God's intervention for the peace in Bawku to be sustained.
Reverend Father Dominic Akologo Azuma, Chairman of the Council, who delivered the sermon, lamented on the loss of peace in the area and called for the maintenance of peace so that development activities could resume.
He said at the height of the conflict, the law enforcement agencies instructed all churches to close down which brought church activities to a stand still.
Alhaji Ibrahim Kobillah, Co-chairman for the Bawku Inter-Ethnic Peace Committee, said the committee was undertaking the purification of the land in twenty five areas and had so far done that in eleven areas and hoped that things would go on well.
He appealed to the people in the area to support the committee in its activities in search for peace adding that unhealthy criticism about the committee would not help but retard its effort.
Mr Lawrence Lerewanu, Coordinator for Christian Commitment of World Vision, noted that prayer was the only way that could bring peace and not through the barrel of the gun.
He asked the people to be prayerful because one could effectively talk to God only through prayer.
