Thirty apprentice artisans in the Sene District of the Brong Ahafo Region have received working tools and equipment valued about GH�9,000.00, to start their own businesses.
The beneficiaries, who included dressmakers, carpenters, auto mechanics, auto electricians and welders, had passed an examination
conducted by the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI).
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), African Development Bank (AfDB), National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) and the Sene District Assembly jointly provided the support.
Mr Atta Kwasi Boakye Junior, Head of Rural Enterprise Project (REP) of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC), told GNA that the assistance was under the technology promotion and support apprentice training component of the REP.
He that 90 apprentices have so far been assisted to wean themselves from master crafts-persons and set up their own businesses.
Mr Boakye said, since its introduction in June 2004, the project has trained 2,341 people in bee-keeping, soap and pomade making, grass-cutter rearing, batik tie and dye among other self-employable skills.
Mr Dominic Napare, the District Chief Executive, said that the private sector would be supported to contribute to the economy to create more jobs for the youth.
