Mr Samuel Sarpong, Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), has called on the youth to take a cue from people who have genuinely succeeded in life and emulate them.
He said through the sharing of ideas and experiences with successful personalities in life they could also make it.
Mr Sarpong said this in an address read on his behalf at a day's seminar organized by the Centre for Community Empowerment (CeFORCE), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) of the Grace Baptist Church in Kumasi.
"Individual career planning and development" was the theme for the seminar.
It attracted some unemployed people, Senior High School (SHS) graduates, artisans and small scale entrepreneurs from the metropolis.
They were taken through career planning and developmental topics.
Mr Sarpong said there was the need for individual would-be investors to undertake self-appraisal tests and explore avenues in order to make informed decisions.
The Reverend Robert Asante, Director of CeFORCE said the seminar was to sensitize participants to improve the quality of their lives and also contribute their quota to the reconstruction of the country.
He said the aim of the NGO was to create awareness for people's self-potential and offer guidance for personal development.
Mr Amponsah Boadu, Lecturer, Kumasi Polytechnic, called on parents not to impose careers on their wards but rather support and guide their interests.
Mr Solomon Kwarteng Forkuo, also a lecturer at the Polytechnic told the participants that their future depended on them and therefore they should be innovative and improve on their performance.
