Warner Bros is developing a feature film set in the universe of "Game of Thrones", one of the most popular TV shows of the streaming era, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film studio has tasked producer and screenwriter Beau Willimon ("House of Cards" and "Andor), with the job, the film industry publication reported on Tuesday.
The magazine recently hinted in a cover story with "Game of Thrones" creator George R. R. Martin that such a film could be in the works. According to reports, HBO is also developing additional series set in the same universe.
The cinema film is reportedly set to focus on the conquest of Westeros by Targaryen king Aegon I, who founded the Targaryen dynasty in the Seven Kingdoms, the report said.
However, the future of the project is uncertain due to the pending Paramount Skydance takeover of Warner Bros, which could lead to changes in the studio's development slate.
With his multi-volume fantasy saga, George R. R. Martin created the novels that inspired the cult fantasy series "Game of Thrones", leading to one of the biggest phenomena in TV history.
Since January, the new spin-off series "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" has been running on HBO Max.
The six episodes about the adventures of the knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg are set about 90 years before the events of the original series and are based on Martin's "Tales of Dunk and Egg" novellas.
