The long-in-the-works TV extension of the Creed movie universe is reality. Prime Video has ordered Delphi, a drama series executive produced by Creed movie franchise star Michael B. Jordan and Marco Ramirez, who will serve as showrunner.
Delphi is focused on young boxers at the Delphi gym from the Rocky and Creed movies.
The Delphi Boxing Academy is the Los Angeles-based boxing gym founded by Tony “Duke” Evers where Apollo Creed trained for many years. Now run by Evers’ son, Tony “Little Duke” Evers, the Delphi gym is home to Apollo Creed’s son, Adonis Johnson Creed, play by Jordan in the movies.
Jordan and his Outlier Society, which has a first-look film deal and overall television deal with Amazon MGM Studios, began conversations with Amazon about building a Creed-verse a couple of years ago, with a live-action and anime series among the projects explored.
At the 2023 premiere of Creed III, which Jordan also directed, he told Deadline that “building the Creed universe is something that I’m really excited about.”
Jordan was on hand at the Amazon upfront to introduce Delphi.
“The series that takes us back to where it all began,” he said. “What I love about this story is that it stays true to what the Rocky and Creed franchise is all about: hard work, determination, fighting for something bigger than yourself. It’s about family, the ones we’re born into and the ones that we created. We’re building something special here, and I’m excited to introduce you to new fighters that will walk into the Delphi. As always, in Creed we say, one step, one round, one punch at a time.”
This is the latest series based on MGM IP developed and greenlighted by Prime Video following Amazon’s $8.5B acquisition of the Hollywood studio. It joins Legally Blonde prequel series Elle, Carrie, and Barbershop, with a Tomb Raider drama also in the works, among others.
Delphi is executive produced by Jordan and Liz Raposo via Outlier Society, alongside Irwin Winkler, David Winkler, and Charles Winkler for Chartoff/Winkler Productions.
Through three movies, the Creed franchise, a spinoff from Rocky, has grossed more than $660 million at the global box office.
Outlier Society is repped by M88, WME, 2PM Sharp, and attorney Greg Slewett. Chartoff/Winkler is repped by Dave Feldman at Brecheen, Feldman, Breimer, Silver & Thompson.
