Ghanaian makeup artist, Roselyn Akosua Mantey, has presented her Guinness World Record Award for the Longest Makeup Application Marathon to the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in recognition of the vital role the creative arts play in national development.
The presentation, which took place on Monday, April 7, celebrated not only her personal achievement but also the power of Ghana’s creative industry on the global stage.
Mantey, who earned the record after five grueling days of non-stop makeup artistry, has not only gained international acclaim but has also become a symbol of what determination, passion, and skill can achieve. The record-setting feat was supported by Imajin & Fusion Global.
In her remarks, Mantey expressed gratitude to GTA and the Ghanaian public for their support throughout her journey.
“My certificate has Ghana’s name on it twice, that shows I stood in for my country, and I’m proud that the Ghana Tourism Authority came on board to share this with the world,” she said.
She acknowledged the many challenges she faced along the way but emphasised that perseverance and determination carried her through.
Presenting herself as a symbol of strength and purpose, she urged the youths, particularly young women not to let their background or circumstances limit their potential.
She emphasised that learning a skill and choosing independence was not only personally empowering but also vital to the country’s growth and development.
As part of her commitment to empowering others, she is offering makeup training for free to anyone interested in building careers in the beauty industry, but trainees would come with their own products.
She said this aims to create a pathway for more young people to become self-reliant through skill acquisition, especially in a field that often goes underappreciated.
Head of Marketing at Imajin & Fusion Global, Kwame Kwateng, described the record as a testament to Ghana’s vibrant creative industry and a signal for greater collaboration between the creative and tourism sectors.
“This was not just makeup it was performance, culture, and brand Ghana all fused into one,” he said.
“Akosua’s artistry, endurance, and commitment remind us of the potential within our creative professionals to shape national narratives. We see this as a door opener for more creative arts to be incorporated into Ghana’s tourism promotion.”
Deputy Director of GTA, Abeiku Aggrey Santana, applauded Mantey’s achievement and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to supporting her advocacy for skill acquisition among the youth.
“Of all the Guinness World Record attempts in Ghana, Akosua Mantey’s stands out. It’s a skilled, talent-driven effort, which aligns with government priorities like the Work Abroad Program that focuses on vocational training,” he said.
He emphasised that her work proves that skilled vocations like makeup artistry are not second-class professions, but viable career paths with both local and global opportunities.
“We are proud of her, and we are ready to partner with her in promoting tourism and creative skills development,” he said.
