Less than 24 hours after making a sudden (and cryptic) return to Instagram, Meghan Markle announced via the platform her upcoming lifestyle reality show coming to Netflix. The host? Markle. The executive producer? Also Markle.
“I have been so excited to share this with you! I hope you love the show as much as I loved making it. Wishing you all a fantastic new year! Thanks to our amazing crew and the team @netflix. Beyond grateful for the support - and fun!” Markle wrote in an Instagram post announcing the upcoming series, which premieres on Netflix this month.
In a trailer for the series, Markle is seen arranging flower bouquets, baking bread and attending to her backyard bees.
“I’ve always loved taking something pretty ordinary and elevating it,” she says in the trailer. “We’re not in the pursuit of perfection, we’re in the pursuit of joy ... Love is in the details.”
Netflix describes the upcoming show as an “inspiring series, produced by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, that reimagines the genre of lifestyle programming, blending practical how-to’s and candid conversation with friends, new and old,” per a statement shared with People.
The statement continues, “Meghan shares personal tips and tricks, embracing playfulness over perfection and highlights how easy it can be to create beauty, even in the unexpected. She and her guests roll up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same.”
Markle’s return to the spotlight has been a long time in the making. Since the release of the Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” the “Suits” star has kept a relatively low-profile, disrupted only by the occasional Archewell Foundation announcements — the non-profit organization she co-leads with Harry.
But, she’s been planning to make a return for a couple years now. “I’m getting back … on Instagram,” Markle told The Cut during a 2022 interview. More than two years later, Markle lived up to her word and launched a new Instagram profile Jan. 1.
Markle’s return to social media and upcoming series harks back to before she was engaged to Prince Harry and ran lifestyle blog The Tig, which featured celebrity interviews, fashion tips and details on her acting career. She parted ways with the blog in 2017.
In wake of Markle and Harry’s 2020 departure from royal duties, the couple signed a $100 million deal with Netflix to create an undisclosed number of documentaries, TV series and other content, as reported by Elle Magazine.
“With Love, Meghan,” will mark the fifth Netflix project from the couple, per Forbes. Together, the couple’s production company Archewell Productions has released “Heart of Inviticus,” “Polo,” “Live to Lead” and “Meghan & Harry.”
None of the series have done so well as the couple’s docuseries, “Meghan & Harry.”
The Netflix documentary about the couple was watched for 81.55 million hours during its first week on the platform — making it Netflix’s most-watched documentary debut ever, per CNN.
The series climbed to number 1 in the United Kingdom and made top ten TV listed in 85 countries.
Meghan Markle’s eight-episode lifestyle show, “With Love, Meghan” premieres in full on Netflix on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
