The Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply (GIPS) has called on the new Board of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) to drive improvements in the public procurement system to contribute to stronger fiscal performance and a more robust economy.
In a statement signed by its President, Dr Simon Annan, GIPS — which is the leading professional body for procurement and supply chain management practitioners in the country — said the new PPA board was taking office at a critical time, as the nation grappled with fiscal constraints, prompting calls for improved public sector efficiency and demand for value-for-money in government procurements.
“We implore the new PPA leadership to impact the economy with their expert knowledge of procurement procedures in line with the ethics of the profession, reinforce ethical standards and enhance public confidence in the procurement process,” the statement said.
The new board is chaired by Basil Ahiable, the first Chairman and Fellow of GIPS.
The institute congratulated Mr Ahiable on his appointment, adding that it signalled a new era of professionalism, integrity and expert leadership in the public procurement landscape.
GIPS also expressed optimism in the board chairman’s competence and ability to make a tangible contribution to national development with prudent supervision and strict adherence to value-based procurement.
“We believe in the competence and trust in the capabilities of Mr Basil Ahiable in delivering impactful leadership that will ensure efficient public spending, enhance the integrity of procurement processes, and facilitate national development,” GIPS said.
As a professional body representing procurement and supply chain management professionals in Ghana, GIPS underlined that the appointment marked a pivotal moment for both the PPA and the broader procurement environment.
