betPawa, a leading sports betting company in Africa with a presence in 18 markets, has announced a significant investment in women's football in Ghana. This investment includes sponsoring the Women's FA Cup under its Locker Room Bonus initiative, in addition to renewing its sponsorship of the Ghana Premier League.
At a press conference held in Accra, Ntoudi Mouyelo, Managing Director of Mchezo, the owner of the betPawa brand in Africa, revealed that the company had renewed its partnership with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for an undisclosed sum.
The Locker Room Bonus, launched in 2023, has already benefited over 7,000 players, paying close to 1.9 million Ghanaian Cedis (approximately $250,000 USD) in bonuses through digital mobile money transfers directly to players after every winning game.
For the 2024-2025 season, betPawa will continue to sponsor the Premier League and extend its sponsorship to the Women's FA Cup, starting from the round of 16.
"During the 2022-2023 season, approximately 600,000 Ghanaian Cedis was paid to players, while the 2023-2024 season saw 1.3 million Ghanaian Cedis paid to players," Mr. Mouyelo explained. "Additionally, 4,000 players were impacted in the 2022-2023 season, and 3,000 players in the 2023-2024 season."
In addition to player bonuses, betPawa will provide incentives to three technical staff members of each team. The company has also invested in sports infrastructure, commissioning the first phase of the betPawa Park at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Greater Accra Region.
Furthermore, betPawa has announced its sponsorship of the Ghana Football End of Season Awards, which includes a special prize for journalists. Recently, the company won three awards at the Gaming and Lottery Awards, including Marketing Campaign of the Year.
