14th February 2024, in a heartfelt demonstration of love and commitment to education, AT, Ghana’s most innovative telecommunication network has successfully executed its Month of Love initiative by making donations to Sokpoe Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) Primary School, Sogakope Comboni and Cuniberto RC Basic Schools on Valentine’s Day.
AT's donation went beyond donating relief and stationery items to the schools in the community, to inspiring the young minds towards STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Through a partnership with STEMInc Ghana, AT provided children at the Sokpoe PCG Primary School with technology experience where the pupils were engaged on how to build a traffic light modulo prototype. The exercise sought to ignite passion for STEM subjects and innovation among the students.
The GMB 2023 Queen, Selorm Gadah, who hails from the Volta Region graced the event as a guest speaker, sharing her inspiring educational journey and emphasizing the transformative power of education. Her presence further inspired and encouraged the pupils to aspire for more in their academic pursuits.
Speaking on behalf of AT, Public Relations Manager, Felicia Evame Thornhill commended the committee overseeing the development and wellbeing of Sokpoe post-flooding. Their unwavering commitment towards their community aligns seamlessly with AT’s purpose of touching lives, making a positive impact in the lives of people.
She said, “The success of the event was made possible through the collective efforts of AT employees, who generously contributed in the form of cash and kind towards this initiative.” she encouraged the students to work hard with the hope that they should consider careers in STEM.
Speaking at the event, the Headmistress of Sokpoe PCG Primary School, Madam Winner, expressed gratitude to AT for their kind gesture. She remarked, “Your visit today would go a long way to inspire the students and we hope for more of such visits and support”.
Some dignitaries in attendance were, the school Improvement Support Officer (SISO), Mr. Samuel Agbevem, the Reverend Minister of Sokpoe PCG, the Chairperson of Sokpoe PCG School, Fred Aduna, the Sokpoe Relief Steering Committee Chairman, Mr. Robert Avenorgbo, Assembly man of Sokpoe, Staff of Sokpoe PCG, Mentees from Ada College of Education and some community members.
This donation aligns with AT's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, "Touching Lives," focused on the pillars of Education, Health, and Wellbeing. The primary objective was to contribute meaningfully to the lives of the students at Sokpoe PCG, Sogakope Comboni and Cuniberto RC Primary Schools, particularly, those affected by the flooding in October 2023.
