The Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) in collaboration with the Swedru Golden Star FM will offer sponsor package to support the Swedru Akwambo Festival scheduled for Monday, August 12 to Sunday, August 18, 2019.
Mr Daniel Otoo, Sales Controller for Central- North of MTN announced this at the launch of "Yellow Sunday Special " which is part of the activities of the week-long bi-annual Akwambo festival of the Chiefs and People of Agona Swedru.
The "Yellow Sunday" is organized every two years by the Golden Star FM, a based Swedru local Radio Station and MTN during the Akwambo to entertain the youth after a durbar to climax the festival.
Mr Otoo said the MTN sponsorship package formed part of its social corporate responsibilities to support communities under Central –North catchment areas of the Company during their festival celebrations.
The Sales Controller for Central-North said MTN would sponsor the streets carnival, distribution of MTN T' Shirts, free credit cards and mounting of big platform bash to be featured by contemporary artistes.
Mr Kwame Adu- Baffour, host of Drive Time of Golden Star FM said the Yellow Sunday was instituted to discourage the youth from travelling outside Swedru to entertain themselves during the festival.
Mr Adu- Baffour, also known as Kwame K, said the Yellow Sunday was to spice and provide different entertainment to make the festival attractive to people both home and abroad to patronize it.
He therefore urged the youth to involve themselves in activities including clean-up exercises to make the Swedru township clean during and after the celebration.
Mr. Adu- Baffour asked the youth to desist from acts that would tarnish the image of Swedru and also disrupt activities of the festival.
Mr. Samuel Kobena Eduful, Akwambo Planning Committee Secretary expressed appreciation to the MTN and Golden Star FM for honouring social Corporate responsibilities to help the Chiefs and people of Swedru to show case their rich cultural and traditional heritage.
He said the Planning Committee had outlined numerous activities including fundraising to finance Ultra-modern ICT and library complex.
Mr. Eduful made a passionate appeal to the people of Agona Swedru, Companies, financial institutions, supermarkets and residents to donate funds to support the project.
He stated that the Planning committee members would ensure that every amount given out towards the festival was accounted for to help give Swedru a proper facelift.
