The benchmark index recovered from losses on the back of gains in three counters in the banking, insurance and beverage sectors. The GSE-CI gained 4.10 points (+0.16%) to close at 2,525.51 with a -2.10% year-to-date return while market capitalization advanced by 0.40% to settle at GH¢60.68 billion.
Performance was bullish across sector indices. Financial stocks advanced for the second straight session, gaining 0.42% to close with a -8.91% YTD return. Performance in the financial index was due to gains in Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (+6.67%), SIC Insurance (+5.88%) and Cal Bank Limited (+1.05%). Fan Milk Ghana Limited (+0.13%) pushed the SAS-MI up by 0.04% to close with a -20.99% YTD return.
Enterprise Group Limited (-0.44%) and AngloGold Ashanti Depositary Receipts (-14.58%) were the top laggards at the session.
Trade values surged with 203,789 shares valued at GH¢2,446,479.05 changing hands from 790,027 shares valued at GH¢960,238.93 in the previous session. Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) dominated trades by both volume and value, accounting for 59.87% of total volume traded and 97.45% of total value traded.
