The benchmark index sustained gains to the second consecutive session on the back of gains in three counters in the banking and telecommunication sectors. The GSE-CI gained 9.68 points (+0.38%) to close at 2,548.74 with a -1.20% year-to-date return while market capitalization declined by 0.17% to settle at GH¢60.70 billion due to a loss in Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (-6.25%).
Performance was bearish across sector indices. Financial stocks shed 4.49 points (-0.21%) to close with a -7.98% YTD return due to a loss in Ecobank Transnational Incorporated. Ayrton Drug Manufacturing Limited (-12.50%) dragged the SAS-MI down by 0.07% to close with a -21.04% YTD return.
Societe Generale (+1.35%), MTN Ghana Limited (-1.30%) and Ecobank Ghana Holdings (+0.40%) were the top performers for the session.
Activity levels declined with 54,553 shares valued at GH¢35,821.61 changing hands from 131,782 shares valued at GH¢388,586.58 in the previous session. MTN Ghana Limited (MTNGH) dominated trades by both volume and value, accounting for 45.09% of total volume traded and 53.68% of total value traded.
