Mr. Kelvin Doe, a 20 year old Sierra Leonean Innovator, has stated that African youth must employ unwavering resolve, focus and determination to realise great results of their innovative ideas. He made the statement in an interaction with the level 300 entrepreneurship class of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), on 16th February, 2017. Further, he stressed that in spite of a hostile African environment towards innovative thinking, students of UGBS have a chance to explore their innovative and creative potentials.
On his current tour of Africa dubbed ‘Innovation Catalyst’, Mr. Doe encouraged students of UGBS to identify societal needs and use their creative ideas to provide the required solutions. He opined that, young African students have the potential to change the fortunes of Africa if they cultivate innovative thinking lifestyles.
The young innovator mentioned that, his passion to change the African narrative and inspire the youth’s involvement in innovation necessitated these conversations. He therefore challenged young aspiring innovators to start with the little resources they can lay hands on. “When you are focused and passion driven, discarded metals, cargo boxes and cables will suffice for a start”, he added.
Mr. Doe has invented batteries to power lights in homes, an FM transmitter, a sound amplifier, a three-channel mixer and a microphone receiver. He is currently working to invent an emergency shoe charger that will convert kinetic energy into electrical energy for mobile phones, and a device capable of tracing lost mobile phones. He is also the founder of ‘Changing Africa’, a foundation which aims at mentoring young Africans.
