Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) Wednesday announced that the total annual tonnage throughput of year 2010 hit a new handling record of 2,899,603 tons, up 24.8 percent, compared with 2009.
The total annual tonnage throughput of last year was 2,899,603 tons with an increase of 24.8 percent and 14.5 percent against 2009 and 2008 respectively, also surpassing the previous record high of 2,632,300 tons achieved in 2007, according to Hactl.
The tonnage handled in December last year was 249,694, representing a 7.4 percent year-on-year increase over 2009. A total of 765,677 tons were handled in the fourth quarter of 2010, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.5 percent.
Market export demand stayed strong throughout the year as a result of the robust economic recovery. Aggregate export tonnage for the whole year reached 1,589,223 tons, indicating a year-on- year growth of 28.9 percent.
The total import tonnage for the whole year was 741,943 tons, up 18.8 percent against 2009.
As for transshipment, the total volume for the whole year was 568,437 tons, representing a year-on-year growth of 22 percent.
