Mr James Kwaku Dadieh, assemblyman for New Atonsu Electoral Area in the Kumasi metropolis, has suggested the separation of the area to enhance decentralisation.
He said the electoral area consisted of too many communities and this had affected its development.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi Mr Dadieh said there are 13 communities in the electoral area and that his outfit could only work effectively in a few of them.
He said the budget for New Atonsu Electoral Area suffices for only a few communities and education and infrastructure development could be stalled in the long term if the electoral area was not split into two.
Mr Dadieh cited Ahinsan and Ahinsan estates as examples of electoral areas whose largeness did not match up to New Atonsu, yet those areas have two assemblymen each.
"This has put those areas ahead of New Atonsu in terms of development because the respective assemblymen are able to tackle development issues easily due to smallness of those electoral areas," he said.
