Alhaji Gado Sulemana, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Asawasi in Kumasi, has called on municipal, metropolitan and district assemblies to evolve strategies to bridge the socio-economic differences between the urban and rural communities.
He said this would not only help in the positive development of the country but would also lead to the proper welfare and survival of the people.
Speaking to the GNA in Kumasi on Tuesday, Alhaji Gado said chief executives of district assemblies should lead modest and decent lives to win the confidence of the people.
He called on people who were proposed as district chief executives, but were not approved by their assemblies, not to see the few selected ones as opponents but rather cooperate with them to support the government to meet the needs of the people.
On the current global economic downturn, he emphasized that it was not occurring in Ghana alone and that there was the need for Ghanaians to exercise restraint for the government to put in appropriate strategic plans to address the problem.
Alhaji Gado appealed to the Mamprusis and Kusasis to let peace prevail in Bawku, since violence does not benefit anybody.
Touching on the 30th Anniversary of the June 4th Uprising celebration, the leading member said the Uprising was not an evil thing, since it came to solve the socio-economic problem at the time and created a way for the nation's democratic dispensation.
