Tema-based professional golfer Augustine Manasseh produced a commanding display to clinch the top prize at the PGA Heritage Cup tournament held at the Centre of the World Golf Club.
Manasseh, who entered the competition as one of the favourites on the back of recent strong performances, set the tone early with back-to-back rounds of 68 in the opening two days of the four-day championship. He maintained his composure in the closing stages, carding 73 and 74 to seal victory and confirm his dominance.
The tournament, staged as part of Ghana’s Heritage Month celebrations, drew a competitive field comprising 38 regular professionals, five female golfers and 10 senior players, all vying for prize money, ranking points and honours.
Manasseh’s triumph represents a notable milestone in his career, underpinned by a consistent 4-under-par performance and disciplined course management throughout the competition. Speaking after receiving his prize money of GH¢10,000 at a brief closing ceremony, he expressed delight, noting that his hard work had paid off.
Achimota-based golfer Lucky Ayisah finished second after returning scores of 72, 75, 71 and 68, while Kwame Ligbidi, J. Klah and E.K. Owusu placed third, fourth and fifth respectively.
In the seniors’ division, veteran Erasmus Korblah emerged winner with rounds of 71, 74 and 75 over three days, finishing ahead of John Mawuli Nyarko, K. Korsah and S.K. Klah.
The female professionals competed in the main field but were unable to advance beyond the second day after missing out on maximum qualifying points.
Tournament Director Eric Henaku expressed satisfaction with the organisation of the event, commending both professionals and amateurs for their discipline. He also disclosed plans to introduce a tour card system aimed at ranking the top 30 professional golfers annually.
PGA Captain Vincent Torgah lauded the overall performance of the players, particularly the winner, and reiterated the leadership’s commitment to enhancing the image of professional golf in Ghana. He further called on corporate organisations to support the growth of the sport, especially among female players.
The next event on the Professional Golfers Association calendar, the President’s Putter, is scheduled to take place at the Celebrity Golf Club.
