The lush greens of the Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono came alive last Saturday as golfers from across Rotary District 9104 gathered for an exhilarating tournament that blended sport, fellowship, and philanthropy.
The event, which formed part of a larger humanitarian fundraising effort, culminated in the Rotary Club of Accra Ridge clinching top honours in the inter-club contest, ahead of close contenders from the Rotary Club of Accra Ringroad.
Played under regular stroke play format, the competition showcased top-tier talent in both the men’s and women’s categories, drawing praise for its organisation, sportsmanship and purpose-driven focus.
In the Ladies Group A (handicap indexes up to 15.9), Wendy Gyan delivered a stellar performance with a score of 73, followed by Catherine Fabbi on 75, and Nadia Kwei-Sam on 84. In addition to her prize, Wendy - a talented young female golfer also received a set of golf clubs from the Ghana Golf Association.
Group B (handicap 16.0 to 54.0) saw Patricia Adusei Poku and Princess Nkansah-Boadu tie on 67, with Enoma Yaba finishing closely with 70.
The men’s competition proved equally competitive. In Group A (handicap up to 12.3), Isaac Amoako-Mensah led the pack with an impressive 68, trailed by Stephen Afari (70) and Isaac Awuni (71). Group B (handicap 12.4 to 20.6) was topped by Daniel Aryee and Nathan Annobi, both carding 71, while Joshua Kwasi Appah followed with 72.
Group C (handicap 20.7 to 54.0) saw Kofi Etwire and DeAndre Boateng tie on 70, while Oppong Agyare Agyemang-Anane also made a strong showing. Among the seniors, Symon Abudey stole the spotlight with a low round of 64, ahead of Esther Antwi and Ronald Pickings, who both scored 73.
Special prizes were also awarded for individual excellence: Stephen Afari claimed both the men’s Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin accolades, while Wendy Gyan topped the women’s Longest Drive category.
Reflecting on the day, District Governor of Rotary District 9104, Madam Florence Maame Hagan, lauded the tournament’s dual success in promoting sport and raising awareness for a critical cause — funding paediatric surgeries for children in need.
“It’s been a morning and afternoon well spent,” she said. “There’s been good sportsmanship, strong fellowship, and most importantly, support for the cause. The golfers have understood what Rotary stands for — service and fellowship — and have willingly donated to support our mission.”
Madam Hagan also expressed gratitude to the Celebrity Golf Club for their hospitality, and to sponsors such as Japan Motors and WACOFriends for their visible support. Vehicles were displayed on the course grounds, further enhancing the event’s festive atmosphere.
“Today, we’ve not only played golf but strengthened our community and taken a step toward saving lives. That’s what makes this tournament truly special,” she added.
