Ireland's Leona Maguire carded a course record eight-under-par-64 in the first professional day-night tournament.
The Dubai Moonlight Classic on the Ladies European Tour is being held on a Nick Faldo-designed Emirates Golf Club course featuring floodlights.
Each of the 56 players play at least nine holes of one of their opening two rounds in the 54-hole tournament under the new eco-friendly LED lights.
Maguire sank a 25-foot birdie on the 18th under the lights to lead by two.
"It seems like night golf suits me. I can't really complain," said world number 237 Maguire, who made nine birdies and one bogey.
Maguire spent 135 weeks at the top of the women's world amateur rankings before she turned professional in June.
Asked about playing part of her round under floodlights, the 24-year-old said. "I adjusted quite quickly, actually, it was a lot better than I thought.
"The lights went on when we were on 13 and 14, which were a little tricky and then I played the last four holes really nicely."
Germany's Olivia Cowan sits two shots behind Maguire after a bogey-free round of 66.
New LET number one Nuria Iturrios is one further back in third.
Scotland's Carly Booth is tied for fourth with Caroline Hedwall and Karolin Lampert on four under.
