The Ghana Premier League title race is tightening by the week, and league leaders Medeama SC face mounting pressure to rediscover their winning touch when they host newcomers, Hohoe United,  in a crucial Matchday 25 encounter in Tarkwa tomorrow.

The Mauves and Yellow enter the contest desperate to halt a worrying slide in form that has seen their once-commanding lead at the summit trimmed to a single point.

 Since their convincing 3–1 victory over Karela United on January 25, Medeama have managed only three points from a possible 12, going four matches without a win as the league campaign enters its decisive phase.

With 10 games remaining in the 2025/26 season, Medeama still sit top on 46 points, but defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars have surged to within touching distance on 45 points after an impressive run of four consecutive victories.

For Medeama, tomorrow’s clash at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium represents a chance to steady the ship, but they face a Hohoe United side showing renewed belief in their debut top-flight campaign.

The league debutants arrive in Tarkwa unbeaten in three matches — their longest run without defeat this season — and buoyed by last Sunday’s impressive win over FC Samartex 1996 in Hohoe.

That result lifted them to 17th place, just one point from safety, ensuring they travel west with confidence and plenty at stake.

While Coach Ibrahim Tanko's side seek redemption at the summit, champions Gold Stars will be keenly watching developments.

The Bibiani club, spearheaded by the league’s leading scorer, Samuel Atta Kumi, who has netted 11 goals, will look to pile pressure on the leaders when they travel to face struggling Young Apostles.

The Apostles sit second from bottom and have collected just one point from their last 10 matches, leaving them firmly entrenched in the relegation battle.

Gold Stars, by contrast, have taken full advantage of rivals’ inconsistencies in recent weeks and appear to be hitting peak form at the perfect moment.

At the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, Hearts of Oak face a defining challenge as they attempt to revive their faltering title bid against mid-table Basake Holy Stars.

The Phobians have endured a frustrating run at home, failing to score or win in their last three matches on familiar ground.

Their task will be complicated by a Holy Stars side that have been formidable at home, boasting eight straight home victories and the second-best home record in the league, but who have struggled badly on the road, picking up only three points away from home all season.

Asante Kotoko, meanwhile, travel north to face Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale after being held by Vision FC last week.

Kotoko remain fourth and have been average performers away from the Baba Yara Stadium (caretaker coach Prince Owusu's side have won four, drawn four and lost four matches on the road) and cannot afford another slip-up against a Karela side sitting seventh on 35 points.

Victory for the hosts would move them to within a point of the Porcupine Warriors, setting up what promises to be a fiercely contested encounter.

Elsewhere, two-time champions Aduana FC, currently fifth, will look to strengthen their push for a top-four finish when they host bottom club Eleven Wonders in Dormaa-Ahenkro.

In Kpando, struggling Heart of Lions will be eager to end a winless run stretching back to January when they welcome fellow strugglers Swedru All Blacks in a clash with major implications at the wrong end of the table.

Today’s action also offers intriguing storylines.
