Rev. Osei Kofi, a former player of the Black Stars, has said, the current members of the team, must be ready to beat the best teams in the competition, if they want to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
He said, the Black Stars should be prepared to beat every team on their way, before they can be crowned champions.
In an interview with GNA Sports, the member of the 1965 Black Stars squad said, the team should not think about playing weak opponents, because nothing of that nature exist in modern football.
“Our focus must be on the cup. The players must be ready for battle throughout the competition, if they want to win the cup,” he said.
The former Asante Kotoko winger said, every team in the AFCON qualified on merit and had the chance of winning the AFCON, so they should not underrate any team if they want to go far in the competition.
“The AFCON would not be easy for us because most of our players in Europe are not playing regularly in their various clubs and Africa football is different from the Europeans, but Ghanaians should rally behind the team and with the support they can win the cup,” he said.
The AFCON 2019 would kick off on 21 June with the Black Stars first game scheduled to be played on 25 June against Benin.
