The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal, has vowed to consolidate the party’s gains in the March 3 poll and promote inclusivity if elected.
Speaking after receiving a donation from Hajia Amina Adam, his main contender in the party’s primaries, in Accra on Monday February 23, Jamal described the gesture as a strong sign of unity within the party.
“NDC is united. We are united for a common purpose. We are united to ensure that whatever the votes are, we promise to increase the votes this time, inshallah. With this unity and the support from all the contestants, I hope and pray that all other supporters on the ground will learn from what we are doing here.”
He added, “The elections are over. We now have only one candidate, and that candidate is the one leading us into the by-election. I can assure you that I, Baba Jamal, will ensure that there’s unity in this constituency.”
Jamal also emphasised fairness and inclusivity in his leadership. “I will ensure that every member of the constituency executive or the party members will be treated equally and fairly. We are not here to hunt anybody. We are not here to divide the front. We are here to unite the front in the interest of Ayawaso East.”
Looking ahead, he said the focus will be on development. “We are here to ensure that some two, three years from now, when we come back to the people, we have monumental development to point our hands to. That is why we are here.”
He concluded by expressing gratitude to Hajia Amina Adam and her team. “I thank Hajia very much. Please send my regards to her and tell her that surely she will see us before we do the elections. Thank you very much.”
