The Central North Regional Police Command has successfully concluded a three-day intensive capacity-building and high-risk tactical training programme for police officers in Assin Fosu.
The training is aimed at strengthening security ahead of the New Patriotic Party Presidential Primaries slated for January 31.
A total of 80 security personnel took part in the exercise, comprising 70 officers drawn from seven police districts in the Central North Region and 10 officers from the Ghana Immigration Service.
Each of the seven districts presented 10 personnel, while the Immigration Service also deployed ten officers.
Speaking at the end of the training, the Central North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, said the programme was “designed to enhance the operational readiness, professionalism and tactical competence of personnel to effectively respond to any security breach.”
He explained that the training forms part of strategic security preparations ahead of the upcoming NPP Presidential Primary election and seeks to promote a coordinated, tactical and professional approach to election security in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service.
According to DCOP Acquaye, the course focused on tactical operations, public order management, border patrol duties and other critical operational skills to ensure officers are adequately prepared to manage challenges that may arise before, during and after the elections.
He noted that the exercise would significantly boost officers’ confidence and enable them to effectively counter any threats capable of undermining the primaries and future security operations.
The training, which commenced on Monday, January 20, 2026, and ended on Wednesday, January 22, 2026, was facilitated by experienced security experts from the National Police Headquarters in Accra, who were deployed to equip participants with practical, field-oriented and election-related security skills.
Beneficiary units included the Formed Police Unit and other operational teams, whose participation is expected to enhance inter-agency coordination, tactical deployment and overall effectiveness in maintaining law and order during election-related duties and other security operations.
DCOP Abraham Acquaye said the initiative aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police m, Christian Tetteh Yohonu, to build a highly professional, disciplined and well-equipped police service capable of safeguarding public safety and maintaining peace, particularly during major national political activities.

He further cautioned supporters of various political aspirants to remain law-abiding and refrain from acts that could disturb the peace, stressing that the security agencies are well-equipped to deal with any misconduct.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Regional Commander, ACP Felicia Ayesu, encouraged officers who participated in the training to remain guided by the lessons acquired and to continuously practise the skills learned to ensure heightened efficiency and professionalism as the election period approaches.
