The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate who contested the Amenfi Central Constituency polls, Joana Gyan Cudjoe has become the first female candidate to represent the party in parliament.
She achieved this feat by winning with 26,345 votes representing 68.53% during the just-ended election where she swept all the New Patriotic Party (NPP) strongholds in the constituency.
Her NPP contender, Dr. Albert Wiredu Arkoh gained 12,096 votes representing 31.47%.
Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s victory was not without its challenges.
Just two days before the election, her opponents attempted to place an interim injunction which sought to stop the election from proceeding.
But the application was dismissed clearing the way for the Amenfi Central election to go ahead as scheduled.
Joan Gyan Cudjoe persevered and went on to secure the highest number of votes ever recorded in Amenfi Central history.
Joan Gyan Cudjoe, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central who is a private business woman is expected to make a meaningful impact in the lives of her constituents and bring the much needed development to the neglected area.
