Provisional results from Ghana's Electoral Commission indicate a major upset in the Tano South Constituency, Ahafo Region, as the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament, Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere, has lost his seat to Charles Asiedu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate.
Mr Charles Asiedu, son of NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, secured 20,595 votes, surpassing Mr Sekyere’s 18,697 votes. The victory marks a significant milestone for the younger Asiedu, who has been a rising figure within the party.
Mr Asiedu brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He has served as Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Organiser and as the immediate past Ahafo Regional Organiser for the NDC
Additionally, he played a pivotal role as National Campaign Coordinator in Dr Hanna Bisiw’s successful bids for National Women’s Organiser in 2018 and 2022.
A well-educated professional, Mr Asiedu holds a Master of Arts in Organisational Leadership and Governance from the University of Ghana Business School and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ). He also earned a certificate in Political Leadership and Party Organisation from the NDC’s Ghana Institute of Social Democracy.
