The Paramount Chief of Asogli Traditional Area, Togbe Afede XIV has called on politicians and the citizenry to put the interest of the country ahead of their political party interests to facilitate rapid development.
He said valuing political party interest over that of the country created impediment to national development, hence the need for politicians to be patriotic at all times.
Togbe Afede made the call in Ho at the weekend at a durbar to climax the 2023 Yam Festival of the chiefs and people of Asogli, which coincided with the 20th anniversary of his reign.
The colourful ceremony was on the theme: ‘20 Years of Selfless and Inspiring Leadership.’
Commenting on the 2024 elections, Togbe Afede urged the Electoral Commission to ensure fairness by using political dialogues to get all the political parties to accept their decisions, to reduce tension in the country.
He stressed the need for all stakeholders to protect the peace in the country as it was the biggest asset that would attract investors to the country, thereby helping resolve the economic challenges that the country faced.
Touching on corruption, he observed that it remained a major threat to the country as it deprived the people of relevant development because monies meant for national development were taken by few individuals.
Togbe Afede urged other traditional leaders to add their voices to the fight against corrupt practices, including the winner-takes-all-syndrome which was stifling the growth of the country.
The Dormanhene Oseadeayor Agyeman Badu lauded the steering leadership of Togbe Afede over the past 20 years; his promotion of peace and development of Asogli, and his contribution to national development.
He presented GH¢5,000 to Togbe Afede on behalf of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs (BRHC) and GH¢2,000 on behalf of the Dorman Traditional Councilto support the celebration.
