Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin’s resistance of the request on the floor of Parliament has led to many hailing him as a realexample of a good Parliamentarian.
“I am totally humbled by the prompt display of fellow feeling by Hon Bagbin. These galamseyers are doing something wrong, but they are not animals. In fact, they are constrained to do what they are doing because Joseph Osei Wusu’s government has not been able to provide them jobs.
“When you are a Parliamentarian and drive in hundred thousand dollar cars, it is easy to miss the pain of others, but thanks to Hon. Bagbin, we know there are MPs who are caring in Parliament,” Daniel A. Tetteh, a Political Activist told the Ghana News Agency in a random interview on the statements in parliament.
Mavis Ama, a businesswoman, also thanked Hon. Bagbin for his intervention saying the MP for Nadowli Kaleo is an intelligent MP who is more than qualified to rule this nation in fact, he is a clever talker.
Contributing to a statement on the Floor of Parliament by Kumbungu legislator, Ras Mubarak, who condemned the recent burning of trucks in his constituency by the military, Mr Osei Wusu suggested they should kill the miners.
“Extreme behaviour must be met with an extreme response. We are dealing with people who are determined at every point to make their money without regards to what they are doing to the environment.”
In a sharp rebuttal, Mr Bagbin said the murderous request was totally unnecessary.
"It is only the military that is trained in war situations to shoot to kill, one man, one bullet...I don't think we are at that stage now...I don't support any Ghanaian killing any Ghanaian...," he said.
The Second Deputy Speaker and MP for Nadowli Kaleo then suggested persuasion and dialogue with the illegal miners and a concerted national effort to stop the menace.
