Mr Mohammed Hatum, Fetteh Kakraba branch manager of Pacific Filling Station, has appealed to commercial drivers to be extra careful during the Christmas festivities to avoid loss of lives and properties.
Mr Hatum made this known during the inauguration of the branch near Awutu Beraku in the Central Region.
He said over speeding and wrongful overtaking kills and therefore urged drivers to desist from such acts to prevent accidents.
Mr Hatum said it was the duty of the drivers to ensure the safety of the traveling public, instead of being the cause of their death or injury.
He said it was strange to see drivers putting up different behaviour by ignoring rules and regulations of the profession, especially during festive occasions, which resulted in accidents.
Mr Hatum appealed to drivers' unions to educate their members adding that station masters should also not relax in inspecting loaded vehicles before leaving the stations.
He said despite the intensification of motor checks on the highways by personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service, some drivers were still recalcitrant.
He said the filling station had instituted packages for drivers who would buy their product during the yuletide which includes rice, cooking oil, and 'T' shirts.
