The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Patrick Timbillah, has appealed to the public to support security agencies in the fight against violent crime in the country.
He said "Fighting crime must be seen as a shared responsibility" and urged Ghanaians to volunteer viable information to the security agencies.
DCOP Timbillah was addressing members of Military/Police patrols teams undertaking "Operation Calm Life", to fight against criminals in the region, in Kumasi.
He said the security agencies were determined to win the war against miscreants so that law abiding citizens could go about their social and economic activities peacefully.
DCOP Timbillah advised that people who might make distress calls to the Police in time of armed robbery or violent attacks should give accurate description of crime spots to facilitate operations of the patrol teams.
He said the patrol teams were on top of the security situation and would make life uncomfortable, particularly for armed robbers.
DCOP Timbillah announced that the Inspector General of Police has donated GH¢ 2,000 to support the patrol teams and urged security personnel to be disciplined, professional and committed to duty
The Military/Police joint operation was launched in 2008 to curb violent crimes in the region, Accra and Tema.
