A Kumasi Circuit Court presided over
by Mr Eric Baah on Wednesday refused bail to Prince Adu-Gyamfi,
Proprietor and Agyenim Boateng, headmaster of Christ the King
School in Kumasi who failed to register 106 final year students in
this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
They had pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and misappropriation
of GH¢25 they took from each of the candidates and were
remanded in prison custody to re-appear on Wednesday, May 6,
2009.
Their counsel, Mr Michael Kwabena Atta-Adjei's effort to
secure a bail failed because the police needed to conduct further
investigations.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Alice Ansah told the court
that, the accused persons collected monies from the candidates
under the pretext of registering them for the examinations although
they knew the school had not been accredited and lacked the
mandate to participate in the examinations.
She said, when the examinations begun, the candidates realised
they had not been registered and a report was made to the police
who arrested the accused persons.
Police Chief Inspector Ansah said an accomplice is on the run.
