The Kade District Magistrate's Court on Wednesday sentenced Desmond Akoto, an electrician, to six months imprisonment for being on the premises of the Kade Senior High Technical School Girls' Hostel for unlawful purposes. He pleaded guilty.
Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Kwaku Baah Frempong that for sometime now female students at the school had been experiencing theft at their hostel.
He said as a result, the school authorities formed a task force to deal with the situation by getting the culprits arrested and made to face the law.
On April 14, while the students were in the classroom studying, Akoto was seen on the veranda of the hostel peeping through the windows.
The prosecutor said one of the students who was returning to the hostel after studies saw the convict and telephoned the male students to arrest him.
He said Akoto, on seeing the male students approaching, hid in one of the classrooms where he was later arrested.
Akoto was then handed over to the police and during interrogation stated that he went to the hostel to have a look at the environment since he had not been there before.
The explanation did not go well with the police and after investigations, he was charged with the offence of being on premises for unlawful purposes.
