Six passengers were killed and 200 others received injuries when they fell from the roof of a speeding train at Chilbila near Pratapgarh, about 80 kilometres from Faizabad in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The incident occurred when the passengers sitting on the roof of Saryu Express, plying between Allahabad and Faizabad, were hit by a tree branch, Station Officer, Government Railway Police, Abhimanyu Dhar Dwivedi said.
"Six persons were killed and 200 others were injured in the incident," he said.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
The passengers, who were to participate in an army recruitment camp were travelling on the roof as there was no space in the bogies, he said.
