Philanthropists and organisations have been urged to ensure that donations they make are useful to beneficiaries and not for gaining publicity.
Dr. Kwaw Armah Arloo, Medical Director in charge of the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, who made the call, said at times donations such as clothing were too old unfit to be worn and foot wears were half pairs.
He made the appeal when the Council and Court 70 branch of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall in London, donated autoclave equipment and 12 mattresses worth GH¢1,800.00 to the hospital at Ankaful.
Dr. Arloo praised the group for consulting authorities of the hospital about it needs before making the donation.
Nana Kwame Essuon IV, chief of Sanka, near Elmina, and a member of the group, said it was committed to supporting people with mental problems.
He personally donated books worth about GH¢1,000 to the Ankaful nurses training college.
