The Bureau of Ghana Languages (BGL) has endorsed the Ahanta Language Orthography for use in educational institutions across Ahanta land.
The endorsement follows a thorough assessment by a three-member team, which conducted field visits to schools participating in a pilot program on Ahanta language teaching.
In a letter dated January 15, 2026, addressed to the Member of Parliament for Ahanta West, the Bureau found that the orthography meets required standards and that the pilot program has yielded positive results. Teachers, learners, parents, and traditional leaders expressed strong enthusiasm for formal indigenous language instruction.
The endorsement paves the way for the development of learning materials and the eventual inclusion of Ahanta as an examinable subject at the Basic Education and Senior High School levels.
The Bureau has also committed to certifying materials developed using the approved orthography.
