A 29-member delegation from the Malawi Defence Force Senior Command and Staff College has undertaken a study tour of Ghana’s Ministry of Defence to gain insights into Ghana’s strategic approach to combating transnational organised crime and enhancing regional security.
The delegation was warmly received by the Principal General Staff Officer, Brigadier General Ben Gah, who welcomed them on behalf of the Deputy Minister for Defence, Mr Ernest Brogya Genfi on Friday, October 10.
In his welcome remarks, Brigadier General Gah commended the Malawi Defence Force for selecting Ghana as a model for strategic defence studies.
He highlighted Ghana’s extensive experience in regional peacekeeping and its integrated, multi-sectoral approach to addressing transnational threats—an approach that serves as a benchmark for many African nations.
He also underscored Ghana’s ongoing commitment to promoting stability within the West African sub-region through collaborative defence diplomacy, intelligence sharing, and capacity-building initiatives under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) framework.
The visit formed part of the Malawian officers’ academic curriculum, aimed at exposing them to practical models of military-civil coordination and regional cooperation in security management.
During their stay, the delegation is expected to engage with senior officials and key institutions within Ghana’s security architecture to deepen their understanding of the country’s defence policy formulation and operational frameworks.
Leaders of the Malawi delegation expressed their appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral and regional partnerships in the pursuit of peace, stability, and collective security across Africa.
The visit highlights the growing importance of inter-African military collaboration in addressing shared security challenges such as terrorism, piracy, human trafficking, and other transnational crimes that threaten the continent’s security and development.
