The Western Regional Directorate of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has organised an educational tour for students and other stakeholders, to His Majesty Place Farm and Agro-tourism Centre, an eco-tourism site at Miawani in the Mpohor-Fiase District.
The tour, attended by members of Tourist Clubs in Adiembra Senior High School (SHS), Fijai SHS, St. John’s SHS, and Sekondi College, as well as some members of the Ghana Hotels Association, was part of the activities to mark this year’s World Tourism Day (WTD).
The 2025 WTD celebration was on the theme: “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”
Mr Henry Yeledour, the Western Regional GTA Director, said the objective of the educational tour to the ecotourism site was to help young people to deepen their appreciation for Ghana’s natural heritage.
He said it was also part of broader strategies to create awareness about the sustainability of these sites and promote domestic tourism especially among the youth.
He said the theme for the occasion highlighted the great potential of the tourism sector to the development of communities and the country in general.
Mr Yeledour said: “On the occasion of the World Tourism Day, we have brought these young ones here to expose them to one of the natural heritage sites in the country so that they will adopt the culture of exploring these unique places for sightseeing.”
He, however, expressed worry about the poor nature of access roads to these tourists’ sites, and called on the government to construct the roads to help make visiting those areas exciting for visitors.
The Regional Director commended the management of His Majesty Place Farm and Agro-tourism Centre for their efforts in maintaining their site and ensuring a fun experience for those who visited the place.
Mr Clement Konadu, the Coordinator for the Western Regional branch of the Tourism Society of Ghana, praised the GTA for organising the tour particularly for the students, saying it had been a great learning experience for them.
“We hope to have more initiatives like this with the Ghana Tourism Authority so that we can go to places like this one and others to collectively help promote domestic tourism among the youth,” he stated.
Miss Nadia Yaa Akufo, a student from Fijai SHS, expressed gratitude to the GTA for taking them on the tour, and said they had had fun and learned more about the natural heritage sites in the country.
