President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, on his victory in the recent general elections held on December 7.
Mahama’s win marks his return to leadership after previously serving as President of Ghana from 2012 to 2017.
Tinubu conveyed his congratulations during a telephone call, expressing confidence that Mahama’s return to power would strengthen stability within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), where Tinubu currently serves as Chairman.
In a statement issued by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Nigerian leader commended the Ghanaian people for their peaceful and democratic electoral process. “In a telephone call to Mahama, President Tinubu hoped that Mahama’s ascension to power for the second time would further bring stability to the Economic Community of West African States, of which President Tinubu is the chairman.” he said.
Tinubu also praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana’s Vice President and candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his dignified concession of defeat even before the official results were announced. “Bawumia’s stance reinforced Ghana’s democratic ethos,” Tinubu remarked.
Furthermore, Tinubu noted that Mahama’s victory is a testament to the trust Ghanaians have in his leadership and vision. He also expressed gratitude to outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo for his significant contributions to Ghana’s development and regional stability.
Looking ahead, President Tinubu expressed eagerness to collaborate with Mahama’s administration to further strengthen Nigeria-Ghana relations and promote unity in West Africa.

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama on his victory in the December 7 general election in Ghana, following his opponent's concession speech.
In a telephone call to Mahama, President Tinubu hoped that Mahama’s ascension to power for the second time would further bring stability to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), of which President Tinubu is the chairman.
President Tinubu commended the people of Ghana for their commitment to democracy, which was demonstrated through the peaceful and successful conduct of both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
He applauded Ghanaians for demonstrating again to the world that democracy is the preferred path to achieving political stability, economic development, social justice, and transparent governance in Africa.
