The launch of Asamoah Gyan’s ‘LeGyandary’ autobiography raised over GH?340,000 during an auction of the first 50 copies of the book.
The book which talks about the legendary former Black Stars striker’s career was launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra last Saturday.
Mr Ernest Ofori Sarpong, the Chief Executive Officer of the Special Group of Companies and chairman of the occasion, bought the first auctioned copy for GH?100,000.
The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Agyapong, also made a bid of GH?100,000 to purchase the second copy.
The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr Kurt Okraku also purchased his copy of the book for GH?50,000 during the auction.
Other prominent personalities such as businessman Freedom Jacob Caesar, Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, Tony Oteng Gyasi, former Minister of Tourism, Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah all bought copies of the auctioned book.
Speaking at the launch, Gyan said the funds generated from the auction would be used by his foundation to continue its charity works.
He added that the book addressed numerous unknown stories about his career which ought to advise young and upcoming footballers in the country.
“We have been engaged in several charity projects and the funds generated from this auction would help us continue with those projects. This is a script I put together to inspire the teeming young and upcoming footballers who are bent on making it through football,” said Gyan.
